AI Use Disclosure
This publication may use machine tools the way a desk uses search, spellcheck, and a second monitor: to go faster at tasks that still require a person at the end of the hall.
What AI may do
- Help locate, cluster, and summarize candidate records (which a person then opens).
- Help draft structure, alternative phrasings, and checklists against these policies.
- Help flag missing labels, missing sources, or crime-language that lacks a qualifying record.
What AI may not do
- Issue fact-check PASS, REVISE, HOLD, or REJECT.
- Approve its own draft, or the operator’s draft, as the independent checker.
- Publish, deploy, or merge an entry.
- Invent sources, quotations, docket numbers, fact-check IDs, or log entries to fill white space.
- Ingest Reddit or any other firehose without a later, separately approved process. There is no such process at launch.
Human control
An independent checker — not the drafter — must PASS a public entry. High-risk entries additionally require human approval. “The model was confident” is not a method.
If a passage was drafted with material AI assistance, that is an internal production fact. It does not relieve the checker of reading the sources. The public is owed the record, not a tour of the toolbox.
This build
Launch-sequence step 1 is a static shell. CI typechecks and builds HTML. It does not autonomously publish journalism, because there is no journalism in the queue until a person puts a checked entry in /content/posts.
